Difference In Printing Methods
Laser printers have been around for years and feature a drum that rolls powdered toner onto a piece of paper. There is a charge that allows the in to stay in place on the paper once the hot roller melts the toner to the paper making it permanent.
Inkjet printers use liquid ink by disbursing tiny drops onto the paper to create your images. When the paper is done printing it will still be slightly damp to the touch.
Cost of Inkjet vs. Laser Printers
Inkjet printers have a lower upfront cost when first purchasing the equipment. The cartridges used for inkjet printers are often far less expensive than a traditional laser printer. Even with the lower start-up costs it will cost more in the long run to own an inkjet printer. Since they have smaller printer cartridges they tend to last far less than laser printers so, you end up buying more over time. This increases the cost of the printer over its life making it more costly in the long run.
What About Print Quality?
Laser printers offer sharp images that do not smear or blur, even if they come in contact with liquids. However, inkjet printers are far superior when it comes to printing pictures. There are some new laser printers on the market that can offer photo quality prints but, the cost is far more significant than an inkjet printer.
Which Printer Will Last Longer?
The life of the product depends on how much you are using it and what exactly you are using the printer for. In general, it is said that a laser prints will last longer than an inkjet prints will.
